Grades Explanation

The following grades are given based on the performance in the class: A,B,C,D and F. Other grades and marks that are possible are explained below:

I* "Incomplete" indicates that all work in the course was not completed.  Under extraordinary circumstances and at the instructor's discretion, an "I" gives the student the opportunity to complete the work after the term is over.   If an "I" is assigned instead of a grade, University regulations allow one calendar year after the term is over for the work to be completed.  At the end of that year, the "I" will convert to an "F."

If you receive an "I" in a course, it is your responsibility to contact the instructor to find out what work remains to complete the course. DO NOT REGISTER IN THE CLASS AGAIN!!!!  If you do, the "I" will convert to an "F".

IW "IW" is given when the requirements of a course cannot be completed due to an inability to communicate in writing.  If you receive an "IW" in a course, contact the Writing Center for instruction.   The Writing Center will determine the appropriate requirements for remediation.   Once you have met these requirements, the instructor will assign a grade.  One calendar year is allowed for completion of the work, after which the grade will automatically convert to an "F."
W

"W" or "Withdrawal" indicates that enrollment was officially discontinued in the course after the 10th calendar day of the semester and through the 42nd calendar day.*  A mark of "W" does not affect the calculation of the GPA.

*The exceptions to the add and drop deadlines are summer and other special sessions. Students should consult the summer term timetable for the appropriate deadlines.

WP "WP" indicates that enrollment was officially discontinued in the course after the 42nd calendar day and through the 84th calendar day of the semester* with a passing grade. A mark of "WP" does not affect the calculation of the gpa.
WF "WF" indicates that enrollment was officially discontinued during the period after the 42nd through the 84th calendar day* with a failing grade in the course. The "WF" grade will compute as an "F" in the grade point average.
NR "NR" or "No Report" indicates that a grade has not been reported. If grades are still being processed, then check back again later to see if your grade has been posted. If the deadline has arrived, request a copy of your grades through www.campusdirect.com or through the 1-800 number.  If your grade has been turned in since the deadline, it will appear on the copy.  If the grade is also not on the copy when you receive it, contact the instructor to request that the grade be turned in.
P "P" or "Pass" indicates that the course was passed and credits earned.  Hours in which a "P" is earned are not used in the calculation of the GPA.
S/NC S/NC is an alternative to the standard grading system (A, B, C, D, F). It was originally designed to encourage students to take courses in areas outside their fields of special competence with less pressure of competition for grades. A grade of S is equivalent to a standard grade of C or better; a grade of NC signifies a standard grade of D or F. Neither grade is included in the calculation of the grade point average.

Warning: Curriculum courses, major and minor requirements, and major or minor prerequisites may not be taken S/NC, unless specifically permitted by petition. A few courses are offered only on a S/NC basis; these are identified in the Undergraduate Catalog.

You are permitted to change the system of grading in a course through the add deadline. After that date, the changing of an S/NC grade to a conventional letter grade or vice versa is not permitted unless an error is determined by the Registrar.
