High School Deficiencies

Which Course to Take

Choose a list below to find which courses you can take to remove your deficiency. These lists include high school courses and UT courses.

If you were admitted to the University with one or more high school deficiencies, you must complete coursework to remove each deficiency.
Deadlines to Remove Deficiencies
The deadline for completing the courses are as follows:
  • freshmen: by the time you have completed 60 hours
  • transfer students: by the time you have completed 30 hours
Your Registration & Graduation
Failure to remove these deficiencies will result in a hold being placed on your registration and/or your graduation.
Make Up a Deficiency
You can take classes to make up a deficiency at UT in your regular enrollment, as independent study or at another school.

*If you use a correspondence course or a transfer course to remove a deficiency, please notify us at registrar@utk.edu, 209 Student Services Building, (865) 974-2101.

**If you remove the deficiency by taking a course at another school, please check our Transfer Equivalency Course Listings to find out which courses are equivalent to the courses you will take.
