Military Transfer Credit Policy

Any student who has active duty military service receives academic credit based on their number of months of active duty. In order to have this credit awarded the student supplies a copy of his DD214 form to a UTK transfer evaluator who awards three to sixteen semester hours from the departments of Military Science & Leadership, Physical Education and University Studies.

If a veteran has been determined to be eligible for Chapter30 Montgomery GI Bill, then the Registrar's Office awards hours of credit for Military Science and Leadership 101 (2), 102 (2), 202 (3), and Physical Education ld (5). Credit is based on eligibility for the MGIB, which is based on honorable active duty military service.

Credit is not awarded if the student already has credit for MSL 101, 102, or 202, whether the credit is through UTK registration or transferred from another school.

Additional academic credit can be awarded for military service school credit. Students should provide an American Council on Education Registry Transcript for evaluation by a UTK transfer evaluator. UTK awards credit for the courses in the baccalaureate/associate degree category, but does not award credit for the occupational certificate category.
