Frequent Questions
Enrollment
To receive VA Educational benefits, you must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program and all of the classes you take must apply toward that degree. You may repeat only classes in which you have not made a passing grade.
Enrollment Certification
Please print the enrollment certification form from the link below. Complete the form, including your course schedule, and sign it. You may mail it, fax it, or bring it to our office. Remember, an enrollment form must be completed each term to maintain benefits. Failure to do so will result in termination of your benefits. All withdrawals or changes in hours must be reported to our office.
Enrollment Certification Forms
The Enrollment Certification Forms are Adobe PDF files. To use the files, you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. You may download the Reader free from Adobe.
These forms are interactive, which means you can complete them online and then print a copy for your signature and delivery to the Veterans' Affairs office.

Change of Enrollment
A change in your enrollment could result in a change in your benefits. It is important to be aware of the VA policy regarding a change in enrollment. Please review the information on the VA's Web site at https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/wave_FAQ.cfm#ChangeEnrollment.
If you do change your enrollment, it is necessary to notify the UT Veterans Affairs Office by submitting the Change of Enrollment Form.
Monthly Enrollment Verification
Chapter 30 and 1606 students are required to verify enrollment with the Veterans Administration at the end of every month in which they are enrolled. This can be done by calling 1-877-823-2378 or through W.A.V.E.
Fee Extension
Deferment of payment of tuition and fees is available to certain students receiving U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or other governmentally funded educational assistance benefits. Service members, veterans, and dependents of veterans who are eligible beneficiaries of U.S. of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits or other governmentally funded educational assistance, subject to the conditions and guidelines set forth in Tennessee Code Annotated 49-7-104 as amended, may elect, upon formal application, to defer payment of required tuition and fees until the final day of the term for which the deferment has been requested.
Application for the deferment must be made no later than 14 days after the beginning of the term, and the amount of the deferment shall not exceed the total monetary benefits to be received for the term.
Fees are deferred until the final day of the term for which the deferment has been requested. Students who have been granted deferments are expected to make timely payments on their outstanding tuition and fees balance once education benefits are being delivered, and eligibility for such deferment shall terminate if the student fails to abide by any applicable rule or regulation, or to act in good faith in making timely payments. This notice is published pursuant to Public Chapter 279, Acts of 2003, effective July 1, 2003.
Checks
- During enrollment, checks are mailed at the end of the month.
- Since the University does not accept advance checks from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the first check should not be expected for at least eight weeks after the beginning of the semester.
- All of your checks will be mailed directly to the recipient (not to the University) or will be deposited by direct deposit.
