Will I be able to receive an advance payment from the VA?

No. The University of Tennessee does not accept advance checks from the VA.

Can I have my checks sent directly to the University to pay my fees?

No. All of your payments will be mailed directly to you or will be deposited by direct deposit.

How will I be paid?

Checks are mailed at the end of the month for the preceding month. Chapter 30 and 1606 recipients are required to complete an enrollment verification form monthly.

When should I expect my first check?

Normal processing time takes 6 to 8 weeks.

Can I repeat a class?

You may only repeat classes if:
  • you did not make a passing grade;
  • you made a D in the class but your major requires a C or higher. In this case, you must provide written verification on letterhead from your college to the Office of Veterans Affairs stating that a C or higher is required for major requirements to be completed.

Do all of my classes have to apply toward my degree?

Yes. To receive VA Educational benefits, you must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program and all of the classes you take must apply toward that degree.
