Yellow Ribbon Program

At this time, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has not yet made a decision to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program.  So far it has received positive feedback; however, a final decision has not been reached.

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.  This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate.  The institution can waive up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution.

Only veterans with 100% benefit rate may participate in YRP.

Veteran must provide school certifying official with Certificate of Eligibility from VA in order to participate.

Veteran will remain part of Yellow Ribbon program once the school has entered into the agreement on behalf of that veteran until the veteran graduates or leaves the school.

Benefit will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis and will more than likely be limited to a certain number of veterans.  The school will decide the percentage of fees to be waived up to 50% and may limit the benefit to certain education programs.

A list of all participating schools will be available online in June at www.gibill.va.gov
